2025 Field Improvements for KBSA

Spring 2025

In 2024, KBSA, led by then-President Jo Davie, embarked on two milestone projects that transformed our ball park.  First, we installed brand-new fencing around the entire field to ensure the safety of our players and spectators.  Then, we set our sights even higher: rounding off the outfield, installing an electric scoreboard, building a batting cage, and constructing beautiful new timberframe dugouts.  Read on for the full story.

Timberframe Dugouts

We knew it was time for new dugouts.  We were quickly outgrowing their footprint, and one structure was literally coming apart at the seams.  That’s when Lardeau Forest Products approached us with an incredible offer: a donation of timber to construct brand-new timberframe dugouts.  We couldn’t pass up that opportunity.

The generous donation from Lardeau Forest Products was also met with a donation and help from Tree to Truss Timberframing.  Assisting and donating on the design, fabrication, and installation of the timber frame.

Our board remained fully committed to seeing the project through from start to finish.  Breanna carefully managed the finances to ensure we could complete the build.  Josh stepped into the role of project manager  — working closely with Tree to Truss Timberframing Ltd and Lardeau Forest Products.  From demolition and pouring footings to framing the roof and installing doors, Josh worked hard to see the project through to completion.  For the finishing touches, we were honoured to receive donated hooks from another supportive local business, Hamill Creek Timber Homes.  With that, the dugouts were complete and ready to be enjoyed during the 2025 season.

This project truly took a team effort. Thank you to our incredible volunteers: Don Noble, Jordan Hunter, Lorne Anderson, Aaron Kirkaldy, Chris Bostwick, Ben McGeorge, Kevin Connor, Mark Dobroski, Connor Robertson, Carolyn Thomson, and all of our board members. Another thank you to Lardeau Forest products and Tress to Truss Timberframing for their generous donation. It was a tremendous achievement, and we look forward to the community enjoying these timberframe dugouts for years to come.

Electric Scoreboard & Batting Cage

Our spectators had been asking for a scoreboard — but we’re not sure they expected us to go quite this big!

After being awarded a very generous grant from the Regional District of Central Kootenay, we were able to dream big.  Under the leadership of our current President, Matthew Brown, plans for a custom electric scoreboard quickly took shape.  With Josh once again overseeing construction, we successfully installed:

  • A custom electric scoreboard

  • A new batting cage

  • Outfield fencing to create a rounded field design

  • A pitching machine

Now our fans can stay up to date with the action in real time.  The only thing left on our wish list?  A double-sided scoreboard so fans in the beer gardens can catch every play.  Maybe that’s a dream for the future!

Finally, neither project (or any of our projects) would have been possible without the support of the Village of Kaslo — especially Jason Turner, our go-to person for anything field-related.  He consistently goes above and beyond, and we are incredibly grateful to have such dedicated community members supporting our association.

It truly takes a village. Thank you to everyone who helped make this vision a reality.
